A 31-year-old man of Dookie Street, Penal, was arrested for attempting to traffic marijuana to Tobago. He was arrested by members of the Siparia Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Based on information received, members of the Siparia CID conducted a sting operation. Around 6.25am yesterday, officers proceeded to the Ferry Terminal at the Port of Port of Spain. They conducted surveillance and intercepted a Grey Nissan Note driven by a male occupant attempting to board the Ferry to Tobago.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered five rectangular packages wrapped in plastic. Further inspection revealed that the package contained a quantity of marijuana amounting to 5.5 kilogrammes.

The man was arrested by WPC George and conveyed to the Siparia Police Station. He is expected to be charged for the offence of possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking later today.

The operation was coordinated by Snr Supt Brandon John and supervised by Sgt Breedy.
