An attempt was made on the life of a police corporal on Sunday night while at Maracas St Joseph.
According to a police report, at about 9 pm the police corporal, 50, who is assigned to the Port-of-Spain CID was standing on the roadway opposite Josephine Bar located at Accono Road, when a white wagon, stopped and suddenly turned sideways in the centre of the roadway.
Three men ran out of the car armed with automatic weapons and pointed them in the direction of the corporal and opened fire.
Police said the corporal took cover, drew his licensed firearm and discharged five rounds.
The suspects fled back to the vehicle and escaped along Acono Road.
Police said the corporal received a graze to the right side of the neck and was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Centre where he was treated.
Investigations are continuing.
