Police crackdown on illegal weapons continues

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) continues its crackdown on illegal arms and ammunition, with multiple anti-crime exercises across the country.

Illegal weapon hidden in drain in St James

A firearm with ammunition and magazine, along with a bullet proof vest were found and seized by police officers during an anti-crime exercise on Tuesday night in St James.

Police said the Cavim shotgun, the pistol magazine, eight rounds of 7.62 ammunition and the bullet proof vest were found hidden in a drain at Aboud Circular and Dundonald Hill

Reports are a murder recently at occurred at the same location.

The exercise took place between 4 pm and 9 pm, and included officers of the Western Division’s Task Force as well as officers of the Police Canine Unit.

There were no arrests.

Two Held with Pistol and Ammo in Laventille

Two men were arrested and a firearm and a quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Laventille district last night.

Officers conducted the exercise between 9:00pm on Tuesday 11 and 1:00am on Wednesday 12 February 2020.

According to official police reports, officers proceeded to Robinson Lane, Pashley Street, Laventille, where they observed a man acting suspiciously.

Upon seeing the officers, the man ran off but was held a short distance away. The man was searched and one Taurus pistol loaded with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition was found in his possession.

The suspect, a 19-year-old of the district was arrested in connection with the find.

A second suspect, an 18-year-old, also from the area, was found hiding in some nearby bushes and also arrested.

Investigations are ongoing.

Pistol, Ammo and Binoculars Found During OSB II Exercise

A pistol, a pair of binoculars and a quantity of ammo were discovered by officers of the Western Division during an Operation Strike Back II exercise conducted in the Carenage district last night.

The exercise included officers of the Western Division Joint Army Patrol Unit, and was conducted between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm, on Tuesday 11 February 2020.

During the exercise, officers conducted searches of several abandoned buildings in the area, where they found one Glock pistol fitted with a silencer and loaded with four rounds of ammunition. Officers also found three rounds of ammunition and a pair of binoculars.

Investigations are ongoing.
