Hours after Tuesday’s riot at the Golden Grove Remand Prison, police investigators said there was an attempt on the life of a prison officer assigned to the said prison, on Wednesday.
According to a police report, at about 12.30 pm, the prison officer I was proceeding east along Warren Road, Cunupia in his vehicle – a white Nissan AD wagon when he was overtaken by a white Nissan Tiida.
It pulled in front of his vehicle blocking his pathway, the back left door window was rolled down and the suspect pointed a gun out of the window in the officer’s direction, opening fire on the vehicle.
Police said the prison officer managed to turn around his vehicle and sped off in the opposite direction, to the Cunupia Police Station where he made a report.
The officer’s car had two bullet holes on the front windshield.
Police said the suspect was described to be of mixed descent, fair complexion, low haircut with a bushy beard.
Investigators believe that the attempted hit on the officer was ordered by inmates from within the walls of the prison.
Police officers said since Tuesday’s riot and attempted jailbreak several threats have been made against prison officers from the said remand yard prison.
