Police officers were kept busy overnight on Monday pursuing several incidents of robberies throughout North Trinidad.
In Port-of-Spain on Monday around 6.10 pm a Special Reserve Police Officer of Diego Martin was walking in the vicinity of Piccadilly Street, Port-of-Spain when he was held up by two men, one armed with a gun.
The officer was robbed of his cell phone valued at $500, $20 in cash, his TTPS police badge and card and his backpack. The suspects then escaped.
In another unrelated incident, around 9.30 pm on Monday, a 24-year-old woman of Diego Martin was walking along Factory Road Diego Martin when she was accosted by a suspect dressed in a Burkah (a face veil worn by Muslim women) armed with a knife. The victim, police said, attempted to fight with her assailant when she was dealt two stabs to her back. She was then robbed of her IPhone 10 cellphone valued $4,500. The suspect then escaped.
The victim was taken to the West End Police Station by relatives where she handed over the knife to officers and was later taken to the St James Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a 19-year-old man of Morvant was plying his silver Nissan Tiida for hire along Alexis Street, Morvant with two passengers. The driver dropped off when, but when he attempted to drive off two men of African descent approached the vehicle and announced a robbery.
One man opened the driver’s door and robbed him of $103, while another suspect, armed with a gun also approached and pointed the gun at the passenger and stole her handbag containing $350, her bank and identification card as well as an Apple I-phone 7 valued $1,900. Both men then escaped.
And in Sangre Grande a 38-year-old woman of Quash Street, Upper Sangre Grande was in the process of closing her front gate when she was approached by two men, one armed with a gun.
The woman was then robbed of her purse which contained her identification card driver’s permit and an undisclosed amount of cash. Both suspects then ran off.
Investigations are continuing into all robbery incidents.
