Police probe suspected drowning at Monos Island

Carenage police are continuing investigations into a suspected drowning at Monos Island where the body of a man was recovered on Wednesday morning.

According to a police report, at about 11:30 am the Carenage Police received information from the Command Centre of a suspected drowning at Monos Island.

The officers then received further information from the Coast Guard that they had retrieved the body and conveyed it to Staubles Bay.

Ag/Insp Mohammed, Sgt Titte, Sgt Adams, Cpl John and PC Perry responded and on arrival at Staubles Bay met and interviewed Petty Officer J Johnson who was in charge of the crew that retrieved the body.

The deceased was identified as Donald Anthony Aqui, 62, of Blanshette Bay, Monos Island.

Aqui was bareback and wearing a pair of long navy blue track pants and a pair of black sneakers.

Police said there were bruises to the forehead.

Police officers interviewed the wife of the deceased, Helen-Anne Aqui, his son, Lance Aqui and brother, Michael Aqui all of whom arrived at Staubles Bay where they positively identified the body.

An autopsy is expected to be performed today (Thursday) at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
