Investigations are continuing into a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday night on the compound of Tru Valu in Diego Martin.

According to a police report, at about 8.30 pm police officers of the West End CID responded to a report of a shooting on the compound located at Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard, Diego Martin.

Upon arrival, officers met and interviewed a security supervisor who told them that at about 8:20 pm occupants of a black Mitsubishi Lancer, names and descriptions unknown was parked in the car park of the supermarket compound when one of the occupants had an altercation with a male individual who is also unknown.

The said man, he alleged, pulled out a firearm and fired several rounds of ammunition in the direction of the said occupants of the vehicle. The occupants escaped while the alleged suspect also escaped but on foot.

PCs Morris and Giles made checks at St James hospital and Port-of-Spain General Hospital, however, no useful information was received relative to this incident. The scene was processed by PC Durham, WPC Perreira and PC Dennie of the crime scene unit.

Police said nine 9 mm ammunition spent shells and one live round was retrieved from the scene.

Police said a windowpane on a vacant structure located on the northern side of the compound was damaged – believed to have been caused by a projectile.

Officers received no official reports of shooting from victims up to this time. PC Morris is continuing enquiries.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, at about 7.55 pm on Tuesday, a 19-year-old man of LP 52 Chandool Lane, El Socorro Road, San Juan was at home in a downstairs apartment lying on his bed in his bedroom located on the Southern side of the said apartment with the door closed, when a gunman barged in suddenly opening fire on him.

The teenager blacked out and awoke on the back seat of his aunt’s car as he was being transported to the hospital.

The victim told police that he did not see any suspects.

The scene was processed by North Eastern Division CSI personnel WPC St Cyr and PC Nicholas, where five 9mm spent shells were recovered.

The victim sustained five gunshot wounds to both legs, left arm and right side of his back.

He is in stable condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
