Police seize 135 packets of marijuana, arrest man

Police found a bag of drugs in the possession of a man who they chased after after he spotted them and attempted to run away yesterday in Laventille.

According to a police report, between 10 am and 2 pm officers assigned to the Inter Agency Task Force conducted an exercise in the Port-of-Spain Division in various locations. At about 12:40 pm whilst proceeding south on Espinet Street in Success Village the officers observed the suspect who had a black bag in his hand. The suspect, police said, looked in the direction of the police vehicle and started to run.

PCs Andrews and Charles subsequently gave chase. Andrews managed to capture the suspect. Upon a search of the suspect and the bag he was holding, the officers allegedly found 135 packets of marijuana – a total weight of 200 grammes in the bag.

The suspect was then arrested and taken to Besson Street Police Station where he was charged by Charles.

When asked about the drugs, the suspect allegedly told police that he was growing his own trees at home and packaging it for sale.The exercise was supervised by Supt Subero, Asp Ramesar and Insp Matas.
