Police believe that 96-year-old Utilda Joseph may have been murdered at her Siparia home.
Joseph’s body was discovered on Saturday on her bed with her hands bounded and bloodstains by her mouth.
Her neighbour told police that around 2.30 pm she went to her Hillview Lane, Quarry Village home to check on her but got no response.
She contacted Joseph’s relative on the phone to find out whether she was at his home. The neighbour then made checks at the house and found the 96-year-old’s lifeless body clad in a nightgown on her bed.
The police were contacted. When the officers arrived they observed that her hands were bounded and bloodstains were on the mouth.
Police said the house did not appear to be ransacked.
Joseph was last seen alive by her neighbour around 1 pm on Friday. Investigations are continuing.
