Police ticket 26 in Sangre Grande for not wearing masks

Twenty-six tickets were issued to people in Sangre Grande who failed to wear a face mask on Thursday in police exercise conducted in the district between 4 pm and 8 pm.

In addition, 25 fixed penalty tickets for motor vehicle offences were issued to motorists, which included smooth tyres, no headlights, fixtures not subscribed by licensing officers, overcrowding, illegal tints and one loud music.

The exercise which was conducted along the Eastern Main Road Sangre Grande was supervised by Ag Sgt Garcia and Ag Cpl Manickram and included officers from the Traffic Branch Sangre Grande.

Meanwhile, Two of three men held with marijuana in a roadblock on Wednesday were fined, while one was placed on bond by the Magistrate when they appeared in the Sangre Grande Magistrate’s Court via virtual conferencing.

Kumar Jawahir, 40, Gobadhan Madhoo, 52 and Dion Francis, 21 all of Biche were charged with possession of cannabis.

The charges were laid against the trio by PC Duty of the Biche Police Station.

All three pleaded guilty when the charge was read to them by magistrate Brambhanan Dubay.

Kumar Jawahir was fined $5,000 and was allowed six months to pay the fine or in default serve 6 months hard labour.

Gobadhan Madhoo was fined $3,000 and allowed four months to pay or in default serve 3 months hard labour.

Dion Francis was placed on a Bond for 2 years.

The three men were held during a roadblock exercise conducted on Wednesday in Biche when police stopped a Blue Ford Ranger vehicle.

Two occupants along with the drivers were in the car at the time when 296 grammes of cannabis were seized by officers.

The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Aguilal and ASP Jankie and supervised by Sgts Mahabir and Maharaj all of the Eastern Division.
