The brother of a police officer was gunned down outside his Couva home, last night.
He has been identified as 38-year-old Sheldon Hassanali, a fish vendor, of Old Southern Main Road.
According to a police report, at about 8:20 pm, Sheldon was at home with his wife when they heard dogs barking loudly.
As he stepped outside through the back door to investigate why the dogs were so riled up, his wife heard loud explosions and saw her husband slump to the ground.
Guardian Media understands Sheldon was shot in the chest.
His wife called her husband’s brother and the police subsequently responded, with Homicide and Couva Police visiting the scene. A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal for an autopsy to be done at the Forensic Science Centre.
Police have ruled out robbery since nothing was taken.
Investigations are continuing.
