POS man ordered to stay away from family

A Port-of-Spain man has been ordered to stay away from his family and neighbours following a domestic incident which occurred on January 24th.
Sherwin Bute, also known as ‘Ziggy,’ was given the order to stay away from the residence of the alleged victims by Deputy Chief Magistrate, Cherril-Anne Antoine, as part of his bail conditions, after appearing virtually before her at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on January 29th.
He was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of grievous bodily harm and one count of cruelty to a child.
Bute was granted bail for $80,000. He will reappear before the court again on February 26th.
According to police reports, the charges arose out of an incident in which four victims reported to police that they were assaulted by a man following an argument. While the report was being made at the Besson Street Police Station by the victims, the accused walked into the station and was positively identified by them.
Bute was arrested pending further investigations. The case was referred to the Port-of-Spain Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU) where PC Jones was assigned to lead the investigations. The suspect was charged on January 28th with the offences. The investigations were spearheaded by W/Superintendent Claire Guy-Alleyne and supervised by W/Insp Lystra Bridglal.
