The PNM’s Port-of Spain South executive has to produce new nominees by next Thursday and PNM’s D’Abadie O’Meara candidate Ancil Antoine has gotten a “reprieve” as that area’s executive is still supporting him despite recent negative reports.
This was the outcome of a meeting which PNM’s leadership held with the executive of PoS South yesterday and also with the executive of D’Abadie O’Meara.
The meeting concerned the recently selected prospective candidates for each of those seats – Cleopatra Borel and Antoine respectively.
PNM PRO Laurel Lezama-Lee Sing confirmed the call for new PoS South nominees and that D’Abadie O’Meara’s executive had expressed support yesterday for Antoine.
Though the leadership met with PoS South’s executive on Tuesday to allay the unit’s concerns about Borel’s unfamiliarity with the seat—and the issue appeared resolved—the party on Wednesday had to quickly drop Borel after it was found she holds dual US-TT citizenship.
After yesterday’s leadership meeting to alert PoS South to find new nominees, Lezama-Lee Sing said PoS South will seek new nominees for screening next week.
Screening is on Thursday. PoS South officials said they’re working on the issue.
The leadership had also requested a meeting with D’Abadie O’Meara’s executive after a recent report claimed Antoine had vented on executive members at a meeting on Tuesday. Members of the unit will now be meeting to proceed on the way forward. Antoine didn’t answer calls last night.
