17 arrested for driving under influence, marijuana possession

Police have recovered a stolen vehicle and have arrested 17 people for driving under the influence and being in possession of marijuana.

This follows a series of exercises across several police districts over the weekend.

The following is information provided by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

Port of Spain Division – stolen vehicle recovered

Around 4:00pm on Sunday 6th November, 2016, PC Thomas along with a party of officers attached to the Inter-AgencyTask Force Operation H.O.P.E were on mobile patrol along Picton Road when they acted upon information received and proceeded to Plaisance Quarry Road, John John in the vicinity of the Wooden Plannings where they observed a burgundy Nissan Sunny parked along the roadway.

Checks revealed the vehicle bore false registration plates. The vehicle was conveyed to the Besson Street Police Station. Sgt Ragbir is continuing enquiries.

Central Division – stolen vehicle recovered

Between the hours of 2:00 pm and 10:00 pm on Saturday, 5th November, 2016, Snr. Supt Mc. Intyre, Supt. Corbett along with a party of officers attached to the Central Division Operations Unit and Task Force conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Central Division.

During the exercises 6 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 116 Field Interviews were conducted and 7 persons were arrested for possession of marijuana. The officers also found and seized 1 grey Nissan AD Wagon which was reported stolen.

Northern Division – anti-crime exercise

Between the hours of 2:00pm on Friday 4th November, 2016, and 1:00am on Sunday 6th November, 2016, Inspector Hernandez, Ag. Inspector Birch along with a party of officers attached to the St. Joseph and Piarco Police Stations, Arima Criminal Investigations Department conducted several anti-crime exercises in the St. Joseph, Arima, Maturita and Piarco districts.

During the exercises 20 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 1 Field Sobriety Test and 16 Field Interviews were conducted, 3 warrants were executed and 1 persons was arrested for driving under the influence.

The exercises were coordinated by ACP Hackshaw and spearheaded by Ag. ASP Beddoe.

Tobago Division – anti-crime exercise

Between the hours of 11:30pm on Saturday 5th November, 2016, and 8:30am on Sunday 6th November 2016, Sgt. Piggott, Sgt. Roberts along with a party of officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Crown Point Police Station conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Crown Point district. 

During the exercises 9 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 13 Field Interviews and 36 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and 9 persons were arrested for various offences which included driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.

The exercises were coordinated by Snr. Supt. Archie and spearheaded by ASP Sterling Roberts and Ag. Inspector Gosein.
