34 Venezuelans stopped on vessel by Coast Guard

The Coast Guard has intercepted a boat on the way to Trinidad with 34 Venezuelans on board.

A statement issued Friday said that at 12:14 am Thursday, they intercepted a pirogue named ‘DON CIRILO’ registration no. ARSI 3715 north-west of Carrera Island.

Aboard were 34 Venezuelan nationals comprising, 16 males, 12 females, three children and three babies.

The vessel and its occupants were taken to the Coast Guard headquarters, Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas where further searches were conducted resulting in the discovery of 50 blocks of cheese and one sack of avocadoes.

The occupants were processed by members of Immigration Division are were served with rejection orders.

‘DON CIRILO’ was also intercepted on November 2 and the occupants at the time were served with rejection orders by the Immigration Division and escorted out of Trinidad and Tobago territorial waters.

"The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard continues to maintain the safety and security of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the conduct of maritime security patrols within our area of operations," the statement said.
