A controversy is now brewing between the Mt. Hope women's Hospital and the parents of baby Asia Marie, who died during delivery on Tuesday.

Today the hospital was prevented from proceeding with an autopsy on baby Asia after the child's parents say the were not informed about it and are concerned that the report will not be factual.

The father of baby Asia says upon arriving at the hospital this morning he was told that "there was no record of his baby dying at the hospital".

However the relevant documentation was subsequently found but he was then told the baby had been moved to the Port -of- Spain General Hospital.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says there needs to be a change in policies and attitudes if maternal deaths in this country are to end.

The minister was referring specifically to recent maternal deaths which occurred at public health care institutions.
