A Barrackpore man has been remanded into custody after appearing before the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court, charged with robbery with violence and robbery with aggravation against two men in the San Fernando district.
Nigel Williams, 23, of Monkey Town, Barrackpore, was denied bail when he appeared before Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine in the San Fernando 1st Court on Tuesday 28th August, 2018.
The matter has been postponed to Thursday 30th August, 2018.
The incident occurred around 1:40pm on Monday 13th August, 2018, when three men, one armed with a gun and another with a knife, entered a supermarket owned by one of the victims and announced a robbery.
The owner was subsequently robbed of a quantity of cash and $3000 in alcohol and cigarettes, while the other victim, a customer; was robbed of his black Ford Ranger motor vehicle.
The three suspects then made their escape in the stolen van.
The vehicle was later recovered in the La Romaine district by officers of the San Fernando Rapid Response Unit, on Thursday 16th August, 2018.
The accused was arrested at his home during an anti-crime exercise in the Barrackpore district on Wednesday 28th August, 2018. PC Yeshraj Khemraj, San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department, laid the charge.
