The race is on for the marginal seat of California/Point Lisas on The Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC) .

In 2016 the PNM’s Alif Mohammed lost the seat by 81 votes to the UNC’s Ramchand Rajbal Maraj.

This morning,, Maharaj and PNM candidate Dinah Valene Thurtonfiled nomination papers at the office of the Returning Officer at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Thurton was accompanied by supporters and Labour Minister Jennifer Baptiste-Primus.

Thurton said she was confident of winning.

She accused Rajbal of doing nothing for the community during his tenure.

Baptiste-Primus said the PNM was extremely confident of winning by a landslide.

“We trust that these elections would be without any kind of conflict and confrontation, the PNM is a peaceful party, we know about peaceful co-existence, may the best candidate win,” Baptiste-Primus said.

Rajbal-Maraj was accompanied by Couva South MP Rudy Indarsingh and fellow candidate Gangaram Gopaul.

Rajbal-Maraj said the PNM was only filled with “old talk and empty promises.”

Rajbal Maraj said. “Talk done and we decide that the UNC will return 14-0.”

He said the PNM spent a lot of monies for Llocal Government Elections and nothing was done.

Rajbal Maraj said he is expecting to win by a larger majority on December 2.

Indarsingh said the UNC was confident of a clean sweep at the CTTRC.
