Two sets of ballot papers allegedly discarded in black plastic bags have been discovered at the Parvati Girls Hindu College in Penal.

The ballots appeared to largely be those showing votes in favour of UNC leadership contender Dr Roodal Moonilal and members of his slate.

The bags were discovered in a drain at the side of the school this morning by a student.

"I am not surprised, we have pics of ballot boxes leaving polling stations during the voting day last Saturday," Dr Moonilal told CNC3.

"Regrettably, there are some persons within the UNC who cannot conduct themselves half honestly," he added.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the UNC’s Internal Election Committee Dr Rampersad Parasram, has responded by saying while he as seen pictures circulating in the media showing what persons claim to be discarded ballot slips, the Committee cannot act.

He said, “We will only begin an investigation if formal a complaint from a credible source is received".

"Such persons must write a formal complaint to the Committee. I can tell you we have not received any formal complaints on what persons allege to be material belonging to the UNC”, he added.

UNC Political Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar retained her position by a preliminary count of 15,477 against Dr Moonilal's 1466 and Vasant Bharath's 1102.

Persad-Bissessar cast her vote at that school on Saturday.
