An early morning fire in downtown Port of Spain has gutted several businesses and caused over a quarter million dollars in damages.
The fire started just after 9 am this morning.
Witnesses say they saw smoke coming from a closed booth and alerted the Fire Service. However, by the time they arrived, the fire had already consumed the entire building. The firefighters did manage to contain the blaze and stop the fire from spreading to the nearby New City Mall.
The building's custodian, Winston C. Scott, says tenants have lost goods, equipment, and money and estimate the losses to be over $250,000.
