Ex-soldier arrested in connection with robbery

An ex-solider has been arrested in connection with a robbery in central Trinidad.

And a dog attached to the police service is today being hailed the hero responsible for the capture.

Reports are that around 2:15 pm yesterday, the former soldier and two other men entered a home at Ravine Sable Road in Longdenville.

The three armed men robbed the occupants of the home of cash, jewellery and electronic items valued at over ten thousand dollars.

The armed men then attempted to flee the scene in a getaway car.

However, one of the victims jumped into his vehicle and pursued the armed robbers.

Upon reaching the intersection of Ravine Sable Road, the victim then rear-ended the getaway car that subsequently crashed into a T&TEC pole.

At that point, the victim jumped out of his vehicle and confronted the robbers with a cutlass and proceeded to chop one of the bandits in his lower back.

Police were alerted and arrived on the scene during the confrontation.

We understand that a shootout then ensued.

2 of the bandits escaped on foot, while one attempted to hide in some nearby bushes.Matco, a K-9 attached to the police service discovered the man hiding in the bushes.
