Father accused of chopping son gets bail

A fa­ther who al­leged­ly chopped his son dur­ing an ar­gu­ment has been grant­ed bail on the con­di­tion that he moves out of his home.

 

Ram­raj Bab­wah, of Her­mitage Vil­lage, Dum­fries Road, La Ro­maine, was not asked to en­ter a plea when he ap­peared in the San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trates' Court.

Court pros­e­cu­tor Cley­on Seedan said Bab­wah’s son Ster­ling, 20, is ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

The in­ci­dent took place on Sep­tem­ber 9 at their home. Ster­ling was chopped on his left arm and un­der­went emer­gency surgery.

Bab­wah was charged with wound­ing with in­tent to do griev­ous bod­i­ly harm by Sgt Toolah Julien.

Bab­wah said he would re­side with his moth­er who lives a few hous­es away.

He was grant­ed $50,000 ap­proval bail with a cash al­ter­na­tive of $5,000. The mat­ter was ad­journed to Oc­to­ber 18.
