Justices of the Peace operating at the maximum security prison in Arouca say they will not be offering their services to the families of detainess at the remand yard.
The JPs say recently implemented security scanners are endangering their health.
They say the scanners were introduced in the prison one week before Christmas, however they were given the assurance that they will not be subjected to this security measure.
But on arrival at the prison this morning they were asked to pass through the scanners.
A relative of a remand prisoner says she has not been able to have her son's documents processed for his release since he was granted bail over a week ago because the JPs are refusing to enter the prison.
