Police are investigating the murder of a mentally-ill Erin man who was stabbed to death on Sunday afternoon.
Although investigators were told that a man was seen beating and stabbing Joseph Adams near Erin junction, no one was willing to give police an official statement.
Reports are that around 4 pm on Sunday, Erin police were contacted after a passerby found Adams, 54, of St Francis Village, lying dead outside a bar near the police station.
When officers responded, they found him lying on the ground with blood oozing from his nose and chest.
His body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre where an autopsy on Monday revealed that he died from two stab wounds to the chest.
Investigators learned that Adams was a drug user who would sometimes get into trouble in the village.
Police said they were told that he was throwing bottles and stones at passing cars along the SS Erin Road and struck a car.
One driver got out of his vehicle with an object in his hand and was seen beating Adams.
When Adams fell to the ground, the driver got back in his car and drove off.
However, no one got the registration plate number.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region III responded and have begun inquiries.
No one has been held for questioning.
