Minister Cuffie to meet with Digicel about proposed job cuts

Minister of Public Administration and Communications, Maxie Cuffie will meet with Digicel to discuss the proposed job cuts that are likely to affect employees in Trinidad and Tobago.

The announcement of the global job cuts came on Wednesday.

The Ministry issued this statement today:

"The Minister of Public Administration and Communications, the Honourable Maxie Cuffie, whose portfolio includes telecommunications, will be meeting with Digicel Trinidad and Tobago CEO John Delves to discuss the company’s plan to lay off several hundred employees across the region, including Trinidad and Tobago.

Bloomberg has reported that over the next eighteen (18) months, Digicel will be implementing a new organisational structure that will comprise of a small number of regional hubs - two for the Caribbean and Central American region, and two for the Pacific region. It is expected that this will result in job losses.

Mr. Delves spoke with Minister Cuffie regarding the re-organisation and had apprised the Minister of the context of this decision.

In this regard, the two will be meeting at the earliest opportunity to discuss the implications for Trinidad and Tobago."
