No tsunami watches or warnings are in effect for T&T

After a magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook the coast of Venezuela on Tuesday afternoon, the UWI seismic research reports, another strong quake of magnitude 5.9 rocking the southern Caribbean region.

Limited damage has been reported as the temblor was rather deep, from the surface and there are no immediate reports of casualties at this time.

Authorities are dispelling rumours of an impending tsunami threat to this country.

We understand that while no tsunami was reported in wake of the earthquake, no watches and warnings are in effect for the islands.

With shaking felt across the region, it is advised that during an earthquake persons should stay as safe as possible.

Minimize your movement to a few steps to a nearby safe place and stay indoors until the shaking has stopped.
