Pensioner beaten, robbed

A 71-year-old man was badly beaten during a home invasion and robbery on Saturday in Santa Flora.

According to a police report, at about 1.50 am the pensioner was asleep at his home at Francis Trace Extension when he was awakened by people speaking loudly at his front door.

On checking, the pensioner was accosted by five men as he opened the door. They were armed with cutlasses and pieces of wood.

The men pushed the old man into the house where they badly beat him up.

The men then ransacked his house and took a 56-inch TCL Smart television, one Nokia cellphone and four gold chains totalling $20,000 in value.

The pensions, who sustained serious head injuries as well made his way to the Santa Flora Police Station where he sought help.

The police officers called the ambulance and he was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and warded in a serious condition.

Investigations are continuing.
