Police destroy marijuana fields worth $6.1m

Police destroy two marijuana fields worth TT$6,100,000 during a marijuana eradication exercise conducted in Rio Claro.

According to police reports the field contained 6000 fully grown marijuana trees.

The exercise took place between 6:00 am and 5:00 pm, on August 16th and was carried out by officers attached to the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit. 

It also included officers attached to the Eastern Division Task Force and Air Support Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. 

During the exercise, officers proceeded to the Navet/Rio Claro forest, where they discovered the fields in a forested area. 

The trees, along with 10 kilograms of cured marijuana, five pounds of seeds and two camps were subsequently destroyed. 

 Investigations are ongoing.
