Police exercises yield several arrests for arms, ammunition and drugs

The police have made several arrests for possession of arms and ammunition and illegal drugs.

It came during a series of police exercises in Port-of-Spain, Arima, Sangre Grande and Arouca.

The following is a statement from the Police Service.

"In keeping with the Ministry of National Security’s drive to strengthen law enforcement operations to more efficiently combat crime, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) conducted overnight anti-crime operations that resulted in the following successes:

On Thursday 25th February, 2016 during the period 4:00 am to 8:00 am an exercise was conducted in East Dry River Port-of-Spain and was co-ordinated by police officers stationed at the Duncan Street Post and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment. In this exercise several homes were searched for Arms and Ammunition and three young men were arrested. Two of the young men ages 20 and 25 are from the East Dry River Port of Spain area. The third man is 17 years of age is from Tobago.

An exercise was conducted in the Sangre Grande District between 5:00 am and 12:00 pm on Thursday 25th February, 2016 by officers of Sangre Grande CID Task Force and Crime Patrol units. Several search warrants were executed as a result three (3) persons were arrested: a 42 year old man of Sangre Grande for Possession of 189.7 of Marijuana, a 20 year old man and a 19 year old man both of Sangre Grande, who were jointly charged for Possession of 34.2 grams of Marijuana. 104.4 grams of Marijuana was also seized and a warrant for the arrest of a fourth individual of no fixed place of abode.

An exercise was conducted in the Arouca district between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday 25th February, 2016. The exercise was conducted by the Northern Division Task Force Central. Three (3) men were arrested ages 32, 53 and 59 for offences including 2.7 grams of Cocaine, 0.10 grams of Cocaine.

An exercise was conducted in the Arima District between the hours of 1:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday 25th February, 2016. It was coordinated by the Arima CID Officers, as well as K9 Unit in collaboration with officers from the Arima Police Station. Three persons were arrested, a man age 56 of By-Pass Road Arima, a 29 year old man of Arima both jointly charged for Possession of 73 grams of Marijuana, and a third man age 24 also of Arima for Possession of 105 grams of Marijuana, A warrant is to be issued for a fourth man who dropped a bag containing a quantity of Marijuana which amounted to 451 grams.

An exercise was conducted in the Arima District between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Thursday 25th February, 2016. The exercise was conducted by officers from the La Horquetta Crime Patrol. Three persons were arrested, a man age 35 of East Malabar, a second man age 31 of Curepe and a third man age 26 of D’abadie, all were occupants of a white B15 which was intercepted, where 266 grams of Marijuana was found."
