An object resembling a hand grenade, a pistol and a quantity of ammunition, were discovered by officers of the Central Division, during an anti-crime exercise, conducted in the Chaguanas district on Tuesday, police said in a statement.
The exercise, spearheaded by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Inraj Balram, coordinated by ASP (Ag.) Richard Smith and including officers of the Central Special Crime Unit, the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit and the Canine Branch, was conducted between 12 pm and 6 pm.
During the exercise, officers proceeded to an abandoned wooden structure located at the corners of Mano Street and Postman Drive, where they conducted a search.
The search resulted in one pistol loaded with a magazine containing two rounds of .38mm ammunition being discovered.
Officers then proceeded to Isles Trace, Enterprise, Chaguanas, where they conducted a search of a bushy area approximately 100 meters off the roadway, where they discovered the suspicious object.
The object was subsequently secured by the Explosive Detection and Disposal Unit.
No arrest was made in connection with the finds.
