Police recover firearm stolen from Valsayn man

A pistol and a magazine, which were reported stolen earlier this month, were recovered by officers of the Northern Division Special Investigations Unit (NDSIU) during an anti-crime exercise in the St. Joseph district yesterday.

The 76-year-old victim, of Valsayn South, reported to police that around 3:00 pm on Thursday 18th January, 2018, he was robbed at gunpoint outside him home by a lone gunman.

The bandit escaped with the victim’s Mitsubishi Lancer motor vehicle, licensed Smith and Wesson firearm, a magazine containing 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a cellular phone and $1,600 in cash.

The vehicle was recovered later that same day, at Bamboo Settlement #1, Valsayn.

Following investigations and acting on information, an exercise spearheaded by Snr. Supt. (Ag.), Michael Daniel and supervised by Insp. Robert Joseph of the NDSIU, was conducted between 6 pm and 8 pm, on Tuesday 30th January, 2018.

During the exercise, the officers proceeded to a basketball court at Wharf Trace, St. Joseph.

A search of the area resulted in a silver-coloured Smith and Wesson pistol and an empty magazine being found hidden inside a discarded refrigerator.

No arrest was made in connection with the find.
