Police search A&V Drilling

Scores of police officers descended upon the head office of A&V drilling in San Francique today.

Heavily armed officers could be seen outside the business place, as their plainclothes counterparts, believed to be from the Fraud Squad Unit, were seen heading inside. It is not clear if the raid is connected with the alleged fake oil scandal.

Back in 2017 claims emerged that A&V Drilling, which is owned by Nizam Baksh, a close friend of the prime minister received millions of dollars from Petrotrin but failed to supply the volume of oil it promised.

The claim was the subject of an internal audit by the then state-owned company.

Efforts by our correspondent Ivan Toolsie to determine the exact nature of the police probe at the premises today proved futile as all officers would say was that a police matter was underway.
