Police seize 1700 rounds of ammunition, weapons

Police have seized 1700 rounds of ammunition as well as weapons, in several operations on Monday.

Police also arrested an 18-year-old man and 17-year-old woman for sexual offences.

The following is a statement from the Police Service:

"Southern Division - firearm, ammunition, narcotics seized

Around 7:00pm on Monday 15th August 2016, PC Sookram, PC Crawford along with a party of officers attached to the Southern Division Rapid Response Unit acted upon information received and proceeded to an abandoned lot along St.

Joseph Road, Mon Repos where they conducted a search.

During the search the officers found and two duffel bags containing 589 rounds 7.62 ammunition, 857 rounds 5.56 ammunition, 114 rounds .380 ammunition, 3 rounds .9 ammunition, 28 rounds 63.5 ammunition, 100 rounds .22, 1 Glock 17 optical guide laser, 3 ammunition pouches,1 Glock 17 Magazine and 1 Glock 17 extended magazine. No one was arrested. PC Crawford is continuing investigations.

In another incident around 5:55pm on Monday 15th August 2016, Cpl Burke along with a party of officers attached to the Southern Division were conducting enquires along St.Croix Road, Barrackpore when they observed a man who had several outstanding warrants. The man was stopped and the officers conducted a search.

During the search the officers found and seized 21 grammes cocaine with a street value of $735.00. The 29-year-old man of St. Croix Road, Barrackpore was arrested and charged for the offence. He will appear before a magistrate at the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 16th August 2016.

Northern Division – firearm, ammunition seized

Between the hours of 5:00am and 10:30am on Monday 15th August 2016, Sgt Pitt along with a party of officers attached to the Northern Division Task Force Area Central were on duty in the Southern Division when they had cause to stop the driver of silver Suzuki and search the occupants.

During the search the officers found and seized one .32 Beretta pistol and 2 rounds .32 ammunition. A 31-year-old man of Chris Trace, Terrace West,

Chaguanas was arrested. PC Khan is continuing investigations.

In another incident between the hours of 8:00pm on Monday 15th August 2016 and 1:00am on Tuesday 16th August 2016, Sgt Joseph along with a party of officers attached to the Arouca Criminal Investigations Department conducted an anti-crime exercise in the Arouca district.

During the anti-crime exercise 5 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 11 Field Interviews were conducted and 2 persons were arrested for various offences namely wounding with intent and driving a stolen vehicle.

The exercises were coordinated by ACP Persad and spearheaded by Ag. Snr Supt Rajkumar.

Eastern Division – firearm, ammunition seized

Between the hours of 4:00am and 10:00pm on Monday 15th August 2016, Sgt

Mohammed, Cpl Cortez along with a party of officers attached to the Rio Claro and

Valencia Police Stations conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Rio Claro and Valencia districts.

During the anti-crime exercises 44 Field Interviews were conducted, 1 warrant was executed and 4 persons were arrested for various offences. Of the persons arrested a 18 year old man and a 17 year old woman of Rio Claro were held pending enquiries relative to sexual offences.

In another incident around 12 midday on Monday 15th August 2016, PC Castillo along with a party of officers attached to the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department and Crime Suppression Unit conducted a search at an abandoned house at Machack Trace, Sangre Grande.

During the search the officers found and seized 1 Beretta Pistol, 1 magazine and 3 rounds .380 ammunition. No one was arrested. PC Cielto is continuing 
investigations.
