Police seize guns, ammunition, drugs in operations across the country

Police have seized several firearms, ammunition and illegal drugs, in operations across the country on Thursday.

The following is an update from the Police Service on these seizures:

"Between the hours of 12:00pm and 6:00pm on Thursday 19th May, 2016, Sgt. Vincent, Ag. Cpl. Beckles, along with a party of officers attached to the St. James Criminal Investigations Department, North Eastern Division Task Force conducted an anti-crime exercise in the Western and North Eastern Divisions.

During the exercise 3 warrants were executed and 4 persons were arrested for various offences. The officers also found and seized 1 Rouger Pistol, 2 Tanfoglio 9mm Pistols, 4 rounds 40 caliber ammunition and 31 rounds 9mm ammunition. No one was arrested. Ag. Cpl. Beckles is continuing investigations.

Port of Spain Division – firearm, ammunition, narcotics seized

Between the hours of 4:30am on Wednesday 18th May, 2016, and 12:00am on Thursday 19th May, 2016 Cpl. Solomon, Ag. Cpl. Westfield, along with a party of officers attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force Operation H.O.P.E., Belmont Criminal Investigations Department, Port of Spain Task Force, Police K9 Unit and Duncan Street Police Post conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Port of Spain Division.

During the exercises 42 Field Interviews were conducted, 1 warrant was executed and 10 persons were arrested for various offences which included outstanding warrants. The officers also found and seized 594 grammes of marijuana and 19.6 grammes cocaine with a combined street value of $9,596.00, 1 firearm magazine with a round of 5.56 ammunition and 1 Smith and Wesson pistol with 1 magazine containing 2 rounds 9mm ammunition. No one was arrested. Investigations are continuing.

Northern Division – anti-crime exercises

Between the hours of 2:30am on Wednesday 18th May, 2016 and 12:15am on Thursday 19th May, 2016, W/Sgt. Babb Ag. Sgt. Lewis, Ag. Cpl. Durity, along with a party of officers attached to the La Horquettqa Crime Patrol Unit, Cumuto, Malabar, Maloney and Tunapuna Police Stations, Tunapuna and St. Joseph Criminal Investigations Department, Northern Division Task Force Area West and Central conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Arouca, Carapo, Cumuto, La Horquetta, Malabar, Maloney, Pinto, San Raphael and Tunapuna districts.

During the exercises, 191 Field Interviews were conducted, 250 Field Interviews and 1 Field Sobriety Test were conducted while 40 Voluntary Breathalyzer Tests were administered and 26 persons were arrested for various offences which included gang related offences, outstanding warrants, possession of narcotics and robbery related offences.

The exercises were coordinated by ACP Persad and spearheaded by Ag. Snr. Supt. Rajkumar, Ag. Supt Moses.

Southern Division – anti-crime exercises

Between 6:00pm and midnight on Wednesday 18th May 2016, Sgt. Ragbir, Cpl. Barran along with a party of officers attached to the Traffic Section, Mon Repos, Princes Town, St. Margarets and Tableland Police Stations conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Gasparillo, Mon Repos, Princes Town, San Fernando, St. Margaret and Tableland districts.

During the exercises 25 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 72 Field Interviews were conducted, 9 Voluntary Breathalyzer Tests were administered and 2 persons were arrested on outstanding warrants.

South Western Division – anti-crime exercises

Between the hours of 2:00am and 11:00pm on Wednesday 18th May 2016, Inspector Subero, Sgt. Jones along with a party of officers attached to the South Western Division Task Force, Criminal Investigations Department, Erin and Santa Flora Police Stations conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Siparia, Erin and Santa Flora districts.

During the anti-crime exercises 3 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 21 Field Interviews and 21 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, 31 warrants were executed and 20 persons were arrested for various offences which included outstanding warrants and possession of narcotics."
