An ongoing land dispute cost the lives of a 55-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son on Tuesday afternoon in San Juan.

The victims were identified as Shawn Joseph and his mother, Marsha Joseph.

According to a police report, at about 4 pm mother and son were on the compound of a bread house and mini mart located along the Saddle Road near the corner of the Santa Cruz Old Road in San Juan when a car drove past them. Its occupants opened fire shooting them several times.

Mother and son were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, however, they both succumbed to their injuries.

Up to press time police officers were at the scene carrying out extensive investigations. Over ten spent shells were recovered on the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both mother and son were entangled in an ongoing land dispute.

They both received several death threats, police said, over the last few weeks.

Investigations are continuing.
