Immigration Detention Centre resident, Grenadian Rayan Bowen, 25, who escaped from the facility on July 10 was recaptured and charged with firearm and ammunition offences.
However, the magistrate during his court appearance earlier this month was sent to the St Ann's Mental Hospital for evaluation after he was found "acting up" in court.
After two weeks at the institution, Bowen escaped some time on Thursday night.
It is believed that Bowen used a hacksaw blade to cut the bars to the Ward he was warded at.
Terron Gilchrist, chief executive officer of North West Regional Health Authority confirmed that the patient was in Ward 27, the Forensic Ward and believed to have escaped sometime between 7 pm and 8 pm via an abandoned section in the ward itself.
The police was contacted as well as the hospital's security.
According to Gilchrist, the Forensic Ward is designated for persons who were sent from the court for psychiatric evaluation and assessment.
After his IDC escape, days after, PC Seeteram along with other officers from the Tunapuna CID acted on information received and executed a search at a house at Mount Hope Road on August 11.
Bowen was arrested and police seized a Glock 19 pistol and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition which was found on a couch in the living room area.
He subsequently appeared before a Tunapuna magistrate who ordered that he be sent to the St Ann's Mental Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
On July 10, Bowen was among 12 that escaped the IDC.
He was also one of four convicted criminals that were due to be deported after serving time in jail.
Sources close to the investigation told Guardian Media that Venezuelan nationals Henny Quiroz, Nelson Jose Mendoza, Luis Angel Quiroz and Bowen served time for a series of offences which included firearms possession and possession of ammunition.
Mendoza, Quiroz(H) and Luis Quiroz were convicted of possession of a firearm while Bowen was convicted of possession of ammunition.
The four men escaped from the IDC in Aripo along with eight others sometime between 3 pm and 5 pm on July 10 during the airing period.
This was the fourth incident in the last six months.
Sources at IDC told Guardian Media that the men escaped the facility after cutting two chain-link fences on the northern side of the detention facility.
Two of the detainees who escaped - Venezuelan nationals, Charlie Perez Jose and Claudio Flores, were found lost in a forested area and escorted back into the facility at about midnight that same day.
The escapees who are still at large are: Keisler Manuel Carreno Sucre, Nelson Jose Quijada Mendoza, Alvaro Jose Brito Cequea, Adrian Vincente Gonzales, Gudis Jose Tablante Silver, Henny Ramon Cooper Quiroz, Eleazer Tovar de la Cruz, Gregorio Medina and Luis Angel Cooper Quiroz.
A search is currently on for Bowen.
