Three arrested with stolen vehicle following shoot-out with police

Police say quick work by officers resulted in the arrest of three men and the recovery of a stolen vehicle, following an exchange of gunfire between officers and four suspects, one of whom escaped.

The incident occurred along the Caroni South Bank Road, Las Lomas, around 12pm, on Sunday 10th September, 2017, when officers of the Northern Division Area Task Force who were on patrol, received a report of a vehicle being stolen from the PriceSmart carpark, Mausica, D’Abadie.

The officers subsequently spotted and intercepted the vehicle, a green Ford Ranger; and seized a gold Nissan Almera and a silver grey Nissan B15, in which the suspects were travelling in at the time, along Soriah Trace, Las Lomas.

As officers approached the vehicles, one of the occupants of the Nissan B15, fired upon them.

The officers returned fire, however, the suspect managed to escape into some nearby bushes. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of four rounds of ammunition.

Three men, a 36-year-old of Cumuto, a 39-year-old of La Horquetta, and a 29-year-old of Arima, who were drivers of the vehicles were arrested.

The search continues for the gunman who escaped.
