Local turtle conservationist Len Peters has been honoured by Queen Elizabeth II for his voluntary service in protecting endangered turtle species.
The chairman of the Grande Riviere Nature Tour Guide Association was today recognized by Her Majesty and presented with the 'Points of Light Award' by British High Commissioner Tim Stew.
The award recognizes outstanding volunteers every day of the week whose service is making a difference in their communities and whose story can inspire others to create innovative solutions to social challenges in their own communities and beyond.
Peters' educational work in local communities and regular patrols of the beaches has resulted in Trinidad and Tobago now becoming home to one of the densest leatherback nesting beaches in the world.
His work appeared on BBC’s ‘Blue Planet 2’ with Sir David Attenborough.
