Well-known male THA official under investigation for "sexting" schoolboy

Tobago police are investigating an incident where inappropriate text messages were sent to a 15-year-old schoolboy by a well-known THA official.

Guardian Media understands that the incident occurred approximately three weeks ago, but was only made public today via social media.

A senior police official from the Child Protection Unit told Guardian Media, that while an official report was not made to the unit, the contents of the text message itself can be considered as a report and the relevant action will be taken.

A well-placed source close to the schoolboy told Guardian Media when the incident occurred he initially thought it was a joke, but admitted the conversation made him feel uncomfortable, which caused him to send screenshots of the conversation to his friends.

However, he has been in good spirits and was not troubled by the public revelation.

The alleged perpetrator is a 34-year-old political and cultural activist in his area and at one time was nominated and screened for the Tobago House of Assembly elections.

Questioned on the issue, THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles said, he could not comment on the matter, since it may be in the hands of the police.
