A 23-year-old woman today appeared before an Arima Magistrate charged with the murder of her 88-year old grandmother, Edna David, which occurred on Thursday 17th May, 2018.
The accused, Elma David, an outpatient of the St. Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital, appeared before Senior Magistrate Gillian Scotland at the Arima 1st Magistrates’ Court on Monday 28th May, 2018, to answer the charge.
The matter has been postponed to Monday 11th June, 2018.
David, was found dead in her bed by family members at Red Hill, D’Abadie.
Initially, the victim was believed to have died from natural causes, until a post mortem revealed death was due to suffocation.
The accused was arrested on Wednesday 23rd May, 2018, by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region 2, and later charged following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, on Sunday 27th May, 2018.
Investigations were supervised by Insp. Shaun Craig, while charges were laid by PC Sean Thomas, both of HBI Region 2
