Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is today scoffing at the victory which the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has won over FIFA in the High Court.
In delivering her judgement in the case late last night, High Court Judge Carol Gobin ruled that FIFA’s move to appoint a normalisation committee, led by businessman Robert Hadad to replace William Wallace and his team, was “illegal, null and void and of no effect.”
But in a Facebook post in the early hours of Wednesday, Dr Rowley used a quote from Pyrrhus, King of Epirus, from 2,000 years ago which said: “Another such victory and we shall be utterly ruined.”
“So now united TTFA has “won” and FIFA has lost. The matter is settled in local court. We are now free of the “colonial” FIFA,” Dr Rowley said.
The Prime Minister’s use of the words “won” and “colonial” in quotation marks seemingly are hints at sarcasm.
He added: “We, boys and girls, men and women, are free to play by ourselves and against ourselves because nobody will be allowed to play with or against us.”
The PM ended by saying: “Oh, that’s it! I finally understand it. That means we can never lose and will always win because we will only be playing by ourselves… brilliant!”
