Sanitisation and cleaning operations are currently taking place at the Princes Town Police Station after a senior police officer tested positive for COVID-19.

Guardian Media was told that when the results came back on Thursday, the station was closed that evening and more than 80 officers were sent home.

Those officers who had direct contact with the officer have been instructed to self-quarantine.

However, all the officers are expected to be tested. Around midday today cleaners arrived to sanitise the building. The station is expected to be reopened to the public later this evening or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the public has been advised to make their reports to other stations in and around the district.

Several police stations throughout the country, as well as other public buildings, have been temporarily closed over the last few weeks for sanitation due to exposure to the virus either directly or indirectly.
