After two years of dormancy, the Prison Service Cricket Team is set to resume activities, which were halted with the declaration of the pandemic in 2020.
A release from the Prison Service notes that the Prison Service Cricket Team wasted no time in submitting its proposal to Commissioner of Prisons (Ag), Mr. Deopersad Ramoutar, following the Prime Minister’s statement on Friday 04 March 2022, on the recommencement of team and contact sports in this country.
The Prison Service notes that several initiatives, including but not limited to a Cricket Holiday Camp, together with Coaching and Umpiring Training, have been fully endorsed by Ag, Commissioner of Police, Deopersad Ramoutar. The Acting Commissioner also announced the introduction of an additional training module, Sport Psychology, a discipline in which he is trained and certified.
“This is just one of the systematic initiatives undertaken, following the two-year restrictions, as we seek to return to some state of normalcy,” the Ag Commissioner of Prisons said.
“Other areas such as physical visits will be considered, but on a phased basis,” he added.
On Friday 19th March 2022, the Prison Service cricket team’s Assistant Manager Lyndon Ramanan, and Coach Nisar Mohammed, were presented with team uniforms for the 2022 cricket season by Ag Commissioner Deopersad Ramoutar, in a brief handing over ceremony at his Golden Grove Office.
