The Police Service has confirmed that a prisoner who was detained on Christmas Day pending inquiries into a report of wounding, was found dead in his cell at the Tunapuna Police Station earlier today, Sunday 27 December 2020.
According to an official statement from the TTPS, officers at the station were alerted by a shout from another prisoner around 8.16 am today.
On checking, officers found 50-year-old DHANRAJ MANAN of El Dorado, slumped over the toilet bowl. He appeared unresponsive.
The Police Service reports that the Emergency Health Service (EHS) was summoned. In addition, the District Medical Officer Dr Jagget examined the scene and made a pronouncement of death, as well as ordered the body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre for a post-mortem.
The TTPS explains that Dhanraj Manan was detained on Christmas Day following a report that three persons were wounded on Boodoo Street, El Dorado, around 7 pm on that date.
