President of the Private Childcare Providers group says since the COVID-19 pandemic caused schools around the country to shut down- some private preschools have had to shut their doors permanently.

Speaking on CNC3’s the Morning Brew, Nisha Hoyte said some preschool owners have lost their investments- and some have had their properties seized as they struggle to keep up with mounting bills.

Hoyte appealed to Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly to meet with the group.

She said the group wants a definitive answer on whether or not schools will be reopened for physical classes in January 2021 as she said this will determine if school owners could continue to rent spaces and expend overhead costs or shut down permanently.

Hoyte said private preschool owners were also finding it difficult to access state relief grants.

She said private schools are a vital part of the early childhood education system as she said the Government cannot accommodate all the students aged three to five.
