The autopsy on the body of the prisoner who was found dead in a holding cell at the Tunapuna Police Station over the Christmas holidays failed to get underway on Monday as officials await a post mortem Covid-19 test.
Guardian Media understands that not until the results are back then the autopsy will be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
No family member of Dhanraj Manan, 50, was at the Forensic Science Centre on Monday.
However, police said that the autopsy may take place on Tuesday as the results from the Covid-19 test is expected in.
Meanwhile, the T&T Police Service has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the prisoner, who was detained on Christmas Day pending inquiries into a report of wounding.
Moonan was found slumped over the toilet bowl while in a cell at the Tunapuna Police Station and he appeared unresponsive.
He was pronounced dead and his body removed from the station’s cell.
Manan was detained on Christmas Day following a report that three persons were wounded on Boodoo Street, El Dorado on Christmas Eve.
