More than six years after her death, ten men will stand trial for the murder of former Independent Senator Dana Seetahal, SC.

Senior Magistrate Indrani Cedeno yesterday ruled that there was sufficient evidence against former Life Sport co-ordinator Rajaee Ali, along with Devaughn Cummings, Ishmael Ali, Ricardo Stewart, Earl Richards, Gareth Wiseman, Hamid Ali, Kevin Parkinson, Leston Gonzales and Roget Boucher.

The DPP’s Office will now have to file the indictment for the case to be listed on the High Court’s backlogged trial list.

During the course of the preliminary inquiry, which was conducted under tight security at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates Court, more than 90 prosecution witnesses gave evidence.

Cedeno also considered a series of no case applications from the accused men.

In September 2015, the nine accused and Stephan Cummings were charged with Seetahal’s murder. However, Cummings was discharged of Seetahal’s murder in December 2017, after the DPP exercised powers under section 90 (c) of the Constitution and discontinued proceedings against him.

Instead, he was charged with conspiracy to murder and turned state’s witness against the other accused.

Seetahal was murdered in the early hours of May 4, 2014, after leaving the Mau Pau casino in Woodbrook. According to reports, she was ambushed by attackers in two vehicles at the corner of Hamilton Holder Street and O’Connor Street, Woodbrook, and shot to death at close range.
