Both Trinidad and Tobago currently are under a Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert, with Tobago and eastern areas of Trinidad expected to get the worst of the day’s forecast rough weather.

According to a release issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), the Alert was activated at 2:00 am today, and will remain in effect until 5:00 this afternoon, unless the situation changes.

TTMS forecasters advise that periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely, especially over Tobago and eastern areas of Trinidad. The Met Service says these heavy showers and thunderstorms will favour the late morning into the afternoon periods, although conditions are expected to settle by this evening, to give a partly cloudy night.

Citizens also are advised that street/flash flooding and gusty winds are likely to occur during this event. In addition, landslips may occur in areas that are susceptible.

As such, the T&T Met Service is advising citizens to keep monitoring weather conditions and updates from official sources, namely: their website at metoffice.gov.tt; and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) at odpm.gov.tt.
