One man was killed, and a firearm recovered following a police-involved shooting incident, which occurred in the Sangre Chiquito district, yesterday.

According to official police reports, officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force were conducting investigations in the Eastern Division, between 4:30pm and 8:30pm, on Saturday 25th April 2020, when they attempted to apprehend a 19-year-old San Juan suspect.

Police say as they approached the suspect, he ran off into a bushy area.

The officers gave chase and conducted a thorough search of the district, during which the suspect emerged from hiding and attempted to flee by running into a drain.

The officers pursued the suspect, who turned and reportedly pointed a metal object resembling a firearm in their direction and shot at them. In keeping with the Use of Force policy, police reports state that the officers returned fire, hitting the suspect.

He was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital for treatment where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A firearm and quantity of ammunition were recovered from the scene.

The deceased has been identified as Malcolm Aberdeen, of La Canoa Road, San Juan.

Investigations are ongoing.
