Santa Cruz man in court for murder

A Santa Cruz man is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today charged with the murder of Ainsworth Dalrymple and shooting with intent which occurred on Sunday 12 April.

According to the police Aaron Ellis, 38, of La Pastora Village, Santa Cruz, was also charged with possession of firearm and possession of ammunition, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Friday.

Dalrymple, 41, also of La Pastora Village, Santa Cruz, was at Blazney Road, Santa Cruz, with two male friends when a man armed with a gun approached and started shooting at them.

The victim was hit about the body and died at the scene, while one of the other men was hit in the leg. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigations resulted in a suspect being apprehended a short distance away on the same date.

Ellis was charged by PC Benaldo of Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 2, last Friday.
